WBSEDCL unit rate chart (tariff in force for 2026-27)

West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) bills most domestic and small commercial consumers outside the CESC area every quarter, and the energy rate rises as you move into higher slabs. The tables below show the energy charge per unit that this calculator applies for one quarter of three months. They follow the WBSEDCL gist of the WBERC tariff order dated 20.03.2025, which took effect on 1 April 2025 and continues until the Commission issues a new order.

Rural commercial consumers get a 2 paise per unit rebate on the energy charge when quarterly consumption is up to 300 units, and the calculator applies it. The agriculture category uses ₹3.50, ₹4.66 and ₹6.93 per unit for the first 180, next 120 and remaining units of a quarter; these agriculture rates are carried over from earlier versions of this page and should be checked against your bill.

Please note: these rates exclude fixed charge, MVCA (fuel and power purchase cost adjustment), meter rent and electricity duty. Tariffs are set by the West Bengal Electricity Regulatory Commission and can change, so confirm the latest rate on your bill or at wbsedcl.in.

How your WBSEDCL bill is calculated

The calculator follows the same order as a typical bill:

  • Energy charge: units used in each slab multiplied by that slab’s rate. Quarterly slabs are scaled by the billing months, so a monthly bill uses one-third of each quarterly slab (34, 26, 40 units and so on for domestic).
  • Fixed charge: contract demand (rounded up to a whole kVA) × monthly rate × months. The rate is ₹30 for domestic, ₹60 for commercial and ₹40 for agriculture.
  • Meter rent and electricity duty: added on top if they apply to you.
  • Government subsidy: units × the subsidy rate you enter, deducted for domestic and agriculture consumers whose average consumption is up to 300 units a month.
  • Rebates: 1% of the bill amount for paying by the due date, and a further 1% for online e-payment.
  • Late payment surcharge: estimated at 1.25% per month of delay, with no rebate when payment is late.

Worked example: 112 units in 3 months

Take a rural domestic consumer with a 0.58 kVA contract demand who used 112 units in a quarter, pays on time and has the ₹1.17 per unit subsidy.

WBSEDCL bill for 50, 100, 112, 120, 200 and 300 units

Many people search for a “100 unit electricity bill” or a “300 unit electricity bill in West Bengal”. This table uses the same rates as the calculator above for a domestic rural consumer with 1 kVA contract demand, ₹1.17 subsidy and on-time payment, with no meter rent or electricity duty. The units are for one quarter (3 months), so if you use 100 units a month, read the 300-unit row. Urban consumers pay slightly more in the lower slabs.

WBSEDCL or CESC: which tariff applies to you?

WBSEDCL supplies most towns and villages across West Bengal, including areas around Siliguri, Howrah and Durgapur. CESC supplies Kolkata and some neighbouring areas on its own tariff. Check the name on your bill: if it says WBSEDCL, this calculator is the right one.

How to reduce your WBSEDCL electricity bill

  • Stay below 102 units a quarter where you can, since the first slab is the cheapest.
  • Pay before the due date to keep the rebate and avoid the surcharge.
  • Pay online to earn the extra 1% e-payment rebate.
  • Switch to LED lights, BLDC fans and 5-star appliances.
  • Check that your contract demand matches your real load, because the fixed charge depends on it.

Frequently asked questions

How much is 1 unit of electricity in West Bengal under WBSEDCL?

Under the WBERC tariff order for WBSEDCL (effective 1 April 2025), urban domestic consumers pay ₹5.04 per unit for the first 102 units of a quarter and rural domestic consumers pay ₹5.00. Rates then rise slab by slab to ₹9.22 above 900 units a quarter. Commercial consumers start at ₹5.77 per unit for the first 180 units. Fixed charge, MVCA, meter rent and duty are extra, so your final cost per unit is higher.

How do I calculate my WBSEDCL electricity bill?

Select your tariff category, enter the units consumed, your contract demand in kVA and the number of billing months, then press Calculate. The tool applies the slab rates, adds the fixed charge, deducts the government subsidy where it applies and the timely-payment rebate, and shows the net payable amount.

What is the fixed charge in a WBSEDCL bill?

The fixed (demand) charge depends on your contract demand. This calculator rounds the demand up to the next whole kVA and multiplies it by the monthly rate (₹30 for domestic, ₹60 for commercial and ₹40 for agriculture) and the number of months.

How much rebate do I get for paying on time?

The tariff order allows a 1% rebate on the bill amount (excluding meter rent, duty and arrears) when you pay by the due date, and a further 1% when you pay through e-payment. The calculator applies both. A separate special rebate of 10 paise per unit for paying the whole quarter at once is not included. No rebate is applied when the bill is paid late.

What is the late payment surcharge?

If you pay after the due date, a late payment surcharge (LPSC) is added under the WBERC tariff regulations. This calculator uses an estimate of 1.25% per month of delay for domestic and commercial consumers. Enter the delay in months to see the effect, and check your official bill for the exact amount.

Can I use the calculator for a monthly bill from a smart meter?

Yes. Enter 1 in the bill period field. WBSEDCL tariff slabs are set per quarter, and the tariff order sets monthly slabs at one-third of the quarterly slabs, so the calculator scales the slabs to the number of months you enter.

Why does my electricity bill change from month to month?

Your bill changes with the units you use, because higher slabs cost more per unit. It also changes with fuel and power purchase cost adjustments such as MVCA/FPPCA, meter rent and electricity duty.

Is this calculator accurate for CESC or Kolkata?

No. This tool is for WBSEDCL areas, which cover most of West Bengal outside the CESC licence area. CESC consumers in Kolkata and parts of nearby districts are billed on a different tariff.

Which tariff year do the rates belong to?

The rates come from the WBSEDCL gist of the WBERC tariff order dated 20.03.2025. It took effect on 1 April 2025 and continues until the Commission issues a new order, so it is the tariff used for 2026-27 unless WBERC announces a change. Check wbsedcl.in for updates.

Is the bill shown the exact amount I will pay?

It is an estimate. Your printed bill can differ because of adjustments, arrears, meter rent, duty, MVCA and the latest regulatory order. Always check the amount on your official WBSEDCL bill or at wbsedcl.in before paying.
