Teacher’s Day On the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan i.e. 5th September we celebrate Teacher’s Day. Teachers have awards and honors at national, state and district levels. World Teachers’ Day is celebrated on 5th October.

In Guru ‘gu’ means darkness, ‘ru’ means remover.. It means the one who removes the ignorance or darkness in us is Guru or Guru. Bharat Ratna, First Vice President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born in 1888 in Tiruttani. Since 1962, the central government has been celebrating his birthday on September 5 as Teacher’s Day.

Sarvepalli was a great scholar who was nominated for Nobel Prize many times . He has been nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature 16 times and the Nobel Peace Prize 11 times. of Gurus, Sarvepalli has told the world the essence of the traditional Indian philosophy easily and clearly. In his autobiography, he explained how a guru should be for the modern society. Our Puranas have explained the qualities that a Guru should possess. There are many examples of guru-disciple relationships. Lord Krishna – Arjuna, Chanakya – Chandragupta Maurya, Samartha Ramadasa – Chhatrapati Shivaji, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa – Vivekananda Swami symbolize the relationship of guru-disciples.

Some more facts about Radhakrishnan

Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was the Vice President from 1952 to 1962. Second President from 1962 to 1967. He was a great philosopher, educationist, humanist. Radhakrishnan married Sivakam at the age of 16. They have five daughters and one son. Son’s name is Sarvepalli Gopal. After listening to Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s speech in London, HN Spalding was offered a position at Oxford for Eastern Religions and Ethics in 1936.

Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan served as the Vice Chancellor of Delhi University from 1953 to 1952. Radhakrishnan established the Krishnarpan Charity Trust along with Ghanshyam Das Birla and others. Nominated for Nobel Prize 27 times. Radhakrishnan Chevening Scholarships.. Radhakrishnan Memorial Awards established in his memory at Oxford University.
